Meet Our Rider: Nigel Colefax (NZ)
Nigel Colefax is an Australian that has competed the famous Shahzada three times, and completed it three times. No small feat to ride 400 kilometers successfully on one horse! So we know that Nigel loves adventure and has what it takes to join us in Mongolia.

How long have you been riding horses? Seven years.
Do you own horses? Tell us about them!
I have two endurance horses, 1 purebred Arab and the other is my favorite. She is a black stock horse x Appy. I bought her from the dog meat sale. Since then she has completed 1964 kilometers in endurance, including the Shahzada 160 kilometer ride. I also have three young Arabs waiting to come into endurance.
Why are you competing in the Gobi Desert Cup?
I love a challenge and riding horses so this will be perfect for me. I have always dreamt of racing through the desert. This gives me the chance to do that while seeing beautiful country and riding .
What are your long-term goals in the sport?
My goal in the sport is to do the biggest rides in the world.
What do you feel your main strengths in competing for the Gobi Desert Cup?
Being that endurance is my sport and having completed three Shahzadas (400 kilometers rides) I know what I am getting myself into!
What do you fear most about the race?
My only fear about the race is not having my partner with me for the support. I will miss her.
What are you looking forward to most in Mongolia?
Riding the Mongolian horses!
What do you need to improve before the race?
Learn to speak Mongolian!
What is your training plan?
Lots of riding. Get as many 80km rides in as I can before I leave.
Why should others sign up for the GDC?
It will be a once-in-a-lifetime ride. Only of the only rides in the world that offers this type of experience.
What would you consider a successful ride?
To complete with no vet outs.
